A special memory of Mrs Cronin of Gloucester

My special memory of Sir Peter goes back approximately 25 yrs.

Whitefronts at dawnI was in hospital, recovering from an unpleasant operation, a few years after the birth of my second child. The ward was to me (a person used to living "out in the sticks") busy, noisy and therefore very stressful. My husband sent me a get well card, which was a print of a painting by Sir Peter, of White Fronted Geese.

I had this card on the table at the end of my bed, where I would focus upon it and take myself out of the turmoil and stress of the ward and into the peace of the wetlands where the birds were landing.

When I returned home, I wrote to Peter letting him know what a joy and saving grace his painting had been to me, that it had aided my recovery, kept my sanity and also given much joy to other patients and my visitors.

A couple of days later I had a call from his secretary, to say that my letter had arrived just as Peter was leaving on an expedition (to Antarctica?) which meant that he was unable to cotact me personally. However, he wanted his secretary to let me know how much my letter had meant to him.

I still have that card!
