WWT to attend this year’s Rutland Bird Fair

21 July 2010

WWT will once again host a stand at this year’s Rutland Bird Fair – the world’s first and largest international bird watching event.

The event will take place this year from Friday 20 August until Sunday 22 August, and WWT will be manning a stand in Marquee 3 (stand number 26/27).

As part of the packed lecture programme at the fair, WWT’s head of species planning Peter Cranswick will be giving a talk on ‘Saving the Madagascar pochard’ on the Friday, aviculture manager Nigel Jarrett will deliver a talk on our role in the Great Crane Project on the Sunday and, on the same day, project landscaper Paul Pattison will host a workshop entitled ‘How wet is your garden?’ to tie in with our WIMBY/sustainable use of water campaigns.

Last year the event attracted more than 25,000 visitors. This year, staff on the WWT stand will preside over an exciting interactive wetland-themed game of Jenga as well as a prize draw, the winner of which will be awarded a set of SLC 8 x 30 binoculars, kindly donated by our corporate sponsors Swarovski.

The airtight, dustproof and waterproof (to 4m) binoculars will be given to one lucky stand visitor chosen at random. Pop by for your chance to win, as well as to find out more about WWT’s latest work and conservation projects. We look forward to seeing you there!
