Can you spot your dormouse house?

We have been busily putting up dormouse houses around the reserve over the past few weeks and are delighted with our success. As mentioned before, many of them were put in very quiet, secluded areas of the reserve and can’t be seen. However, we have put some in really prominent places that we know dormice are using. The ‘long walk’, which is the path as you leave World Wildfowl Lake and turn left, bypassing the reed beds and blue ducks, is home to many new boxes. See if you can’t spot your own out there. The hedge row on the other side of the stream on the long walk is a favourite with dormice and many of our initial discoveries were along this area. The dormice boxes will offer a warm, safe refuge for nesting over the coming months as dormice reproduce anywhere from May – August depending on the weather.
