A gold star award

I am pleased to be able to tell you that we have been shortlisted for a national Goldstar award - there are 10 available.

Last year we went through the process of being accredited with the Green Tourism Business Scheme - we got a score of 86% and received a gold award. We have heard that we represent one of the top 40 highest scoring Green Tourism businesses from a total of 400 Gold businesses graded during 2010 which is a fantastic achievement for the Centre.

From the 40 shortlisted businesses 20 finalists will be selected and we are in the process of submitting detailed information to the awards board. There will be a mystery shop and then a prestigious awards ceremony in London during Green Tourism Week in June.

We have been shortlisted for various things such as our community work to encourage people to travel to us without a car and the enviornmnetal schools programme, but also by the canoe safari we will be one of the first organisations to have completely water-free, odourless, composting toilets and we will actually be able to use the compost on site!

We will have to keep our fingers crossed that we are shortlisted to the top 20 and them receive an award!
