Spring is in the air

I am back now after taking a few days off.  February half term was very good at the Centre but the interesting thing at the moment is that there are plenty of signs that Spring has begun.  The first of the Avocets arrived back on Monday, the flamingos are nest building, the birds are starting to pair off and there are snow drops on the ground.

The reserve and grounds team are busy cleaning the nest boxes at the moment for the collection and the tree sparrows. They should be going up fairly soon in the run up to duckling season that could begin any time in March.

In good news, the black swans have hatched 3 cygnets which is very unusual for this time of year - I will try and get some pictures over the next couple of days to show you on this diary.
