A centre update

The reserve webcam will be moved today to the flamingo nest site for 6 months so that you can watch the chicks as they hatch and grow.  It is great that we can utilise the webcam by moving it about the centre so that you can get the best views all year.

We are starting pond dipping activities at the weekend so Spring has definatley started.

In terms of developments, the compost toilet units are now in place and we can start constructing the toilets on top of them, we will be getting portaloos in by the canoe safari until they are completed.

Both breeds of flamingos are now on the nest sites and have started displaying. Keep your fingers crossed for plenty of chicks this year!

More Nene goslings have started hatching and all cygnets are doing well (picture below)

Swan numbers have dropped to around 750 - 800 with about 800 Pink-footed geese on site. We have been asked by the RSPB to carry out a spotted crake survey of the reserve. This will take place end of May into June. They are night time surveys were we listen for      the call in the Reedbed. There is also a possibility for us to record any Water Rails during this survey as well.
