It has been very dry over the last few weeks, and the current forecast isn't looking too hopeful for producing more than a few spots of rain that we had this morning and late afternoon. Regular readers will know that any passing rain shower can be good for 'dropping' birds in during the migration periods. Today a small group of Sand Martin fed briefly over the Mere before heading North. The cloudy conditions did mean that the 'silver lining' was excellent visibilty throughout the day.

Chiffchaff and Blackcaps have been the only other migratory spring birds that were reported on the reserve today.

Perhaps as few as 8 Whooper Swan. Nice to see close views of Teal filter feeding in the newly exposed mud on the Mere.

A good raptor day with ring-tailed Hen Harrier, 3 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.
