Tidal flooding again...ready for World Wetlands Day
We have had a repeat of the tidal flooding that we got at the beginning of January, so if you missed it before, come on down tomorrow (Sun 2nd Feb) and enjoy the fantastic spectacle of thousands of wildfowl and waders taking advantage of the flooded fields.
This was the view down the Saltcot Loaning at high tide, the Saltcot Obs was completely cut off by sea water.
Just after the high tide today, just from the Avenue Tower, we saw:
5710+ Oystercatcher
4000+ Dunlin
2000+ Knot
500+ Golden Plover
150+ Grey Plover
2 Bar-tailed Godwits
10 Black-tailed Godwits
30 Pintail
50 Shelduck
All very close to the hide.
The tide rushed over the sea walls to the south and poured in through the breaches in the northern sea defences to flood most of the reserve making fantastic feeding areas for the birds.
High tide tomorrow (Sun) is at 13:45 and will be another 10.2m.
Wellies are recommended as it is quite wet on all our tracks and footpaths.
Sunday 2nd February is World Wetlands Day so why not come and enjoy the amazing scenes of wetlands at their finest!
