Ospreys back on the nest

On Wednesday around 11am, a Osprey was seen to land very briefly on the nest. Sadly this bird didnt hang around so we couldnt see if it was one of our breeding pair.

On Sunday just after 1330 two Ospreys landed on the nest. A unringed bird, a larger bird than the other and based on the facial pattern we were able to tell it was our regular breeding female.

The female flew off the nest around 1340 and the other bird started to tidy up the nest cup by moving vegetation around. Whilst the bird was doing that it was easy to see on our new HD camera that this bird has a yellow ring on its left leg with the code 8O. This bird is our breeding male which first arrived at Caerlaverock in 2012 and replaced our previous breeding male, green AW.

The Osprey nest is still only view able on the screen in the visitor centre, but we look to get it back on the website shortly.
