Cuckoo returns

After a brief calling male Cuckoo last week, the last few days have seen a male calling above the reed bed and various other places around the perimeter of the reserve.

Highlights of the week although brief were a Grasshopper warbler (heard only) and Little Gull from the Sand martin hide.

A Kingfisher has been seen on several occasions recently and on one occasion was carrying a fish. This means that it is feeding young somewhere in the vicinity!

More Reed and Sedge warblers arriving and setting up territories.

A Treecreeper was seen exiting one of the special nest boxes designed for them and several wild Mandarin ducks have been seen using various larger boxes around the woodland secrets area.

House martins over the reserve and several Swallows chasing around the wetland secrets building.

Water voles continue to show really well all over the reserve and most of the captive areas.

Toad tadpoles now showing in the front entrance pond and Wetlands discovery.
