More sand martins!

During the week numbers of Sand martins at any one time reached around 100 with lots of these perching right in front of the hide. House martins and Swallows were also mixed in with the flock. Other migrants were Common sandpipers, Sedge warbler and Whitethroat. A less obvious winter migrant was the return of a couple of Water rail, one heard in the main reedbed and another seen on wetlands discovery. Other highlights on the boat tour were a Garganey and a Spotted flycatcher.

A Little grebe and two Kingfishers was a welcome addition from the sand martin hide during this week.
