Curlew Sandpiper

The juvenile Curlew Sandpiper is still present from yesterday along with the juvenile Little Stint and a few Dunlin for comparison. A Greenshank appeared on the Mere briefly mid afternoon before being flushed by a Marsh Harrier. Good numbers of Ruff and Lapwing as well as increasing numbers of Snipe on the reserve, also 10 Golden Plover today and at least 1 Green Sandpiper still around.

A Yellow Wagtail flew over the Mere calling early afternoon. Lots of Stock Dove around at the moment, the numbers swelled by good numbers of juvenile birds. Some large flocks of Goldfinch have been around for a while now on site, several flocks numbering up to 350 in total.

Yesterday was another good day for waders with some good counts, the juv Little Stint was still present and was later joined by a juv Curlew Sandpiper, 11 Dunlin, 4 Greenshank, 7 Golden Plover, 4 Little ringed Plover, 40 Ruff and 15-20 Snipe. Still at least 3 Marsh Harriers around as well as several Common Buzzard, 2+ Sparrowhawk and 5 Kestrel. Also a Grey Wagtail flew past Ron Barker Hide in the morning.
