Recent sightings

More of an autumnal feel to the weather over the last couple of days and one or two new birds being seen. On Friday 15th: the best sightings were 2 Wheatear out on the reserve, 2 Greenshank briefly in the morning on the Mere, 4 juvenile Yellow Wagtail and 2 Kingfisher.

Saturday 16th: A few new waders in today in the strong wind, 2 Golden Plover were seen with 4 Black tailed Godwit, 3 Redshank, 2 Ringed Plover, 4 Dunlin and 35 Ruff. At least 2 Peregrine (ad & juv), 2 Marsh Harrier and 3 Yellow Wagtail and the Kingfisher was showing most of the afternoon.

Sunday 17th: The Yellow Wagtails are still viewable albeit distantly from Ron Barker and Kingfishers are showing most days at the moment with up to at least 3 birds being seen. The Green Sandpiper put in an appearance today along with 8 Black tailed Godwit, 3 Dunlin and 31 Ruff. A single Little ringed Plover and Ringed Plover were on show from Ron Barker while a Little Egret was seen from UU hide.

Raptors are still conspicuous with 6+ Kestrel including a couple of birds showing closely from Swan Link Hide while they hover in the wind, in between harassing the Magpies and at least 1 juvenile Marsh Harrier, a male Sparrowhawk, juvenile Peregrine and several Common Buzzard.
