45800 Pink-footed Geese

Records being broken daily with last nights roost count coming in at just under 46000! Pretty much every inch of water on Woodend, The Mere and Vinson's and Sunley's had a covering of Pink-footed Geese. Yesterday's juv leucistic Pink's dropped in on the Mere late morning and two Barnacle Geese were picked up in the flocks from the Ron Barker Hide.

The calm and sunny condition has made for some excellent raptor watching with at least 4 Marsh Harrier present, 12 Common Buzzard including a group of 7 birds perhaps heading south. Peregrines are now becoming regular, 3+ Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk today.

Two Curlew Sandpiper from the Ron Barker Hide. The Ruff numbers are now over 50, 800+ Lapwing and 10+ Common Snipe.

Quite a few Grey Wagtail around the reserve some of which will be migrating through. Again more passage Skylarks, alba Wagtails and Meadow Pipits.
