Latest Sightings

A misty start, calm with light variable winds and some high cloud cover later in the day. There appears to have been a reduction in waders present on site with no reports of any Curlew Sandpiper or Little Stint today, although Little Stint was present yesterday. Smaller groups of Lapwing than of late, 20+ Common Snipe and around 20 Ruff.

Raptors have included 4+ Common Buzzard including one very pale well marked individual, 3+ Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and yesterday Peregrine.

Kingfishers are still showing from the Ron Barker Hide.

A few Chiffchaff calling around the reserve. Tawny Owl near the Kingfisher Hide. Jay on the move through the reserve today. A few more Skylark turning up and again Meadow Pipit.

Small numbers of Pink-footed Geese on and off the reserve. Still not any classic weather to bring these geese in from Iceland, although a light North Westerly in the next day or so near Iceland may bear some fruit. Double figure Shoveler, Gadwall and Pintail present.

Relatively quiet it maybe but any change in the weather should bring in new birds and we are now approaching the peak 6 week period for rarities so anything could turn up!
