Pink-footed Geese arriving

It's official! The first groups of Pink-footed Geese started to arrive onto the reserve this morning with 18 birds dropping in. By mid afternoon at least 80 birds were present. The forecast doesn't look classic for bringing in really big numbers of geese in the next week although I could be wrong...

Not just geese arriving today. The first Whinchat(s) of the year out towards the reserve boundary. Two Wheatear and fair numbers of Meadow Pipits moving south and a few Skylark too.

New waders in with 3 Curlew Sandpiper and Greenshank. At least 30 Common Snipe, 40+ Ruff and 700+ Lapwing.

Some wildfowl counts included 690 Greylag, 100 Canada Geese, 700+ Teal, 360+ Mallard, 30+ Gadwall, 26 Wigeon and 12 Shelduck.

At least three Kingfisher showing from the Ron Barker Hide. Barn Owl early on.
