Six Species of Raptors

An excellent raptor day with calm and warm conditions seeing many birds on the wing. A Hobby hawking for insects over Top Mere was the pick of the bunch which also included 5+ Kestrel, 8+ Common Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk, 3 Marsh Harrier and Peregrine.

The Ron Barker Hide is currently looking good for waders with 800+ Lapwing, 60+ Common Snipe, 50+ Ruff, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Golden Plover and Greenshank.

Wildfowl counts included 600+ Teal and 3 Wigeon (new in yesterday). The two Pink-footed Geese reported yesterday have been present ~ 2 weeks. Another Pink-foot on the reserve is an injured bird.

Other sightings included 2 Kingfisher, 3 Yellow Wagtail and Grey Wagtail.
