Highland Heritage Valerie Craig Kilmood

An exhibition by members of Kilmood Art Club will run from Saturday 18th October to Sunday 23rd November at the Castle Espie Gallery, WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre, Comber.

The exhibition, which is a major club event, comprises over 70 paintings by club members, both professional and gifted amateurs. Exhibitors in this year’s exhibition include Arnold Gardiner who is renowned for his large, format landscape watercolours and Sarah Majury, known for her bold depictions of hares and stags using acrylics and oils.

A variety of media including oils, pastels, watercolours and acrylics will be on display during the club’s five week exhibition which runs until Sunday 23rd November.

This is the club’s 26th annual exhibition and the Millennium Trophy, for best painting in the show, will be awarded to the winning artist by self taught, watercolour specialist Jeff Monaghan. Last year the trophy was awarded to Valerie Craig for her piece Highland Heritage. In addition to the Millenium Prize, visitors to the gallery are invited to vote for the people’s choice which is awarded the Inishbeg Trophy at the close of the exhibition.

David Medhurst, Chairman, Kilmood Art Club highlighted: “The standard of painting by Kilmood Art Club members is very high and each year I have commented that this is the best year yet - the art is magnificent! Artists will be painting periodically in the gallery during the exhibition and I’d encourage everyone to support us and view our annual exhibition at the Castle Espie Gallery.”

Established in 1989, the club goes from strength to strength and currently has 55 members of all ages who attend demonstrations and painting nights on the first two Thursdays in each month.

The Castle Espie Gallery is located in Castle Espie Wetland Centre, 78 Ballydrain Road, Comber, Co Down and is open seven days a week from 10am daily. Access to the art gallery, Loughshore cafe, visitor centre, shop and car park is free of charge.
