33,000 Pink-footed Geese

Pink-footed Geese have dropped back a little from last weeks record numbers, although at 33,000 it is still one of the largest counts recorded on the reserve.

More Whooper Swans arriving with 45 seen today. Other wildfowl counts included 1200+ Teal, 32 Shoveler and 150+ Wigeon. There has been some good wildfowl movements down the east coast in the past couple of days.

Visible migration (vismig) looked plentiful today with a tiny snap shot in time producing over 200 Skylark going south over the reserve this morning. Three Swallow also south today.

Raptors included 2+ Marsh Harrier, 7 Common Buzzard, Peregrine, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk.

We are just starting to see a small Starling roost forming in the reed bed opposite the Harrier Hide with around 1000 birds.
