A first for Lancashire?

Another excellent day with attention being grabbed by a fem/imm Hen Harrier that was seen by a few people and was photographed, the photo's look very promising for the North American race often known as Northern Harrier which is sometimes regarded as a full species.

Hopefully it will be seen in the coming days, and confirmed either way, watch this space!

Other sightings today include the continuing wildlife spectacle that is autumn at the Mere, huge numbers of Pink-footed Geese coming in and out throughout the day, increasing numbers of other wildfowl inc at least 60+ Whooper Swan. Up to 3 Marsh Harriers and several Common Buzzard along with Grey Herons (in flight) continue to keep the other birds on their toes!

A Kingfisher was out on the fenceposts from UU Hide, Stoats continue to be seen if your lucky, today spotted and photographed carrying a Vole sp! Photo's tomorrow.

Lots of interesting birds been turning up around the country, including a big arrival on the east coast of migrant passerines including thousands of Goldcrest, Robins and Thrushes including lots of Ring Ouzels, which could be the next on the cards for the Mere?
