Latest Sightings

Been off the web for a few days but plenty of activity since the weekend although no major rarities on the reserve post ex Hurricane Gonzalo, or if there is they haven't been found yet...

It still appears that big numbers of Pink-footed Geese are coming into the area from Scotland, with record numbers being recorded up there. The most recent count on the reserve was ~ 20,000. Although at least 15,000 came in early afternoon today.

Biggest count of the autumn with over 350 Whooper Swan on the Mere today with perhaps more out in local fields. Other wildfowl counts included 1600+ Teal and 400+ Wigeon.

Some great views of Marsh Harrier to be had with at least 4 birds present. At least 8 Common Buzzard, Peregrine, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk.

A few Stonechat have appeared perhaps for the winter and can been seen by scanning the fence posts out on the reserve fields.

The afternoon swan feeds mean that some point blank views of Ruff are to be had in front of the Swan Link and Raines Observatory Hides.

Kingfishers still present even after one had a close call with a local Sparrowhawk.
