Recent bird news

Recent days have seen plenty of sightings, the Water Rail is still showing at times along with up to 2 Kingfisher in front of Ron Barker Hide. Still 4-5 Marsh Harrier in the area, 3 Peregrine and lots of Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Good numbers of Whooper Swans feeding on the reserve today with 250+ around the Mere and thousands of Pink-footed Geese.

At least 40 Ruff on site today with small numbers of Snipe around and 800+ Lapwing. Coal Tit, Long-tailed Tit and Goldcrest can be seen and the usual Great-spotted Woodpecker.

It's a good autumn for Rough-legged Buzzards so far, with decent numbers on the east coast, maybe a chance this winter as some birds head west.
