Recent sightings

Still at least 4-5 Marsh Harriers hunting around the reserve, with the usual pair of Peregrine being seen, good numbers of Common Buzzard up to 10 birds, 2-3 Sparrowhawk and 2-3 Kestrel. No further sightings of the Hen Harrier sp.

Whooper Swans are increasing with around 200 in recent days dropping in but mainly feeding in fields just off the reserve at the moment, distantly from Curlew Lane this morning. Good numbers of Pink footed Geese with thousands being a regular sight, and some fantastic sunsets as a backdrop as they come 'whiffling' in, twisting upside down at speed, an incredible sight!

Other sightings included male & female/imm Stonechat, 1 White Wagtail and Kingfisher from Ron Barker hide. Quite a few Snipe with flocks of 10 and 20 seen in flight, along with 600 Lapwing, 50 Ruff, 1600 Teal, lots of Wigeon and Pintail. A Water Rail has showed well from Ron Barker.

A Wren spent time in the In Focus shop recovering on saturday after flying in and crashing into the window, before flying out calling.
