Latest Sightings

Some excitement early afternoon with a report of a drake American Wigeon. The bird disappeared for an hour and when it was relocated a close inspection revealed it was a hybrid. Easily done and one of the potential pitfalls that occurs especially with wildfowl which occasionally interbreed.

A limited number of reports from today included Merlin from the UU Hide, Tawny Owl perched out in the sun in a Silver Birch near the Kingfisher Hide.

At least 7,000 Pink-footed Geese came into roost.

Similar counts across the reserve as in recent sightings.

With the North West Bird Watching Festival coming this weekend there is an excellent chance of something being found by the keen eyed masses.
