Latest Sightings

Plenty of activity throughout the reserve with most wildfowl counts on the increase. No specific data as such but the wardens are working on that. Everything bar Pink-footed Geese will be increasing in number, especially with the onset of colder condition across Russia and Eastern Europe as forecast over the next few days.

Raptor action over the past two days has seen Merlin, 2 Marsh Harrier, 6+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk including this bird regularly visiting the feeders at the Janet Kear Hide.

Fieldfare on Hawthorn on the Reedbed Walk.

Other reports included the regular Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide. At least 3 Stonechat and 3 Grey Wagtail present.

An interesting report from the comments section here on the 6th November of 2 Cetti's Warbler, a rare bird here with the first record only occurring a few years ago. There was an apparent sighting early spring but absolutely no sound or sight of any birds since then. We had a little search early on monday but no luck. Given some recent coastal movements it's not impossible some birds have turned up. We would be interested to know where exactly they were heard/seen.
