Recent sightings - 13th May

The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, at low tide, and under a fantastic sunny morning.

Main lake – visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 17, Tufted duck 7, Black-headed gull 90, Little egret 1, Grey heron 1, Shelduck 2, Coot 2, Greylag 2, Cormorant 3.

Wadermarsh - visible from Brent Hide

Black-headed gull 1, Common tern 1.

Freshwater lagoon – visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Tufted duck 7, Gadwall 1, Black-headed gull 270, Mute swan 2, Coot 1, Mallard 8.

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

Black-headed gull 55, Tufted 2, Common tern 4 (courtshipping & defending territory ...  promising signs).

Estuary – visible from Brent hide and Limekiln observatory

Black-headed gull +200, Lesser Black-backed Gull 3, Oystercatcher +400.

Peninsula marsh – visible from Limekiln observatory

Reed bunting 1, Ringed plover 1 (in nest), Meadow pipit 2 (defending a territory).

Limestone Lake - Visible from the lookout in the woodland play area

Tufted duck 7, Little grebe 1.

Woodland

Sparrowhawk 2 (possibly roosting here during the night), Goldfinch 1, Bullfinch 1, Chaffinch 4, Goldcrest 2, Woodpigeon 5, Robin 3, Wren 1, Coal tit 3, Blue tit 1, Great tit 1 (carrying food for potential chicks).

Car Park

Coal tit 2, Wren 1, Goldfinch 1, Goldcrest 2 (courtshipping), Pied wagtail 1 juvenile, Chaffinch 2.
