Sightings from a quick, wet, hide round

Do have a look at previous posts to get an idea of what is current around the reserve as more detailed reports are available, summer information may not change too much as migration is very slow until the end of June and gets busy from July to September.

20 hours of rain have caused the water levels to rise rapidly, we are trying to move water through the site to keep on top of it but it may take a day or two of no rain to reveal a muddy edge again. At least the rain events freshen things up and flushes the scrapes through.

Oystercatcher 2 pairs each with fledged juveniles. Another chick is newly hatched between the hides on the grounds side of the bank.
Avocet 14 nests, over 30 birds on the scrape.
Black-headed Gulls- 69 fledged young from the busy colony.

The Cuckoo's are still singing but perform mostly from 0350am to 0600am hence being rather quiet during opening times.
