Latest Sightings - 30th July - Marsh Harrier yesterday

Yesterday, a juvenile Marsh Harrier was hunting over the reserve all afternoon. First seen from the Avenue Tower, it then moved up towards the Visitor Centre before tracking out onto the Merse. Last seen at 5pm yesterday near the Avenue Tower, no sign as yet this morning.

A Common Sandpiper has been a regular sight on the Folly Pond and is back there this morning.

Our graziers are cutting hay in the fields, scattering huge numbers of insects and probably small mammals which the Swallows, House Martins, Sand Martins and raptors are loving!

We have started to open up views onto the Folly Pond by strimming vegetation on the islands in preparation for Autumn wader migration.

Today's high tide 09:50     8.2m

Osprey Webcam

See live footage of our local Osprey nest here: http://www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/caerlaverock/experience/webcam/

The camera is online between 10am and 5pm daily.

The chicks have now fledged so are flying around the local area with their parents learning how to catch fish. They do return to the nest periodically to eat their catch so keep an eye out for them.

This year the chicks have been fitted with satellite tags so we will have a regular blog update as they make their migration south in a few weeks!
