News for 24 and 25 July

Late news for yesterday- The Land rover safaris were productive with Marsh Harrier seen on both the 11-1pm and 2-4pm outings. We noted 9 Grass Snakes and although elusive an Otter was fishing and causing a panic among the moulting ducks.

Rushy Pen

2 Green Sandpiper, 5 Lapwing, 4 Teal as well as many other common wetland birds.

Tack Piece

4 Green Sandpiper and 2 Lapwing with 4 Teal.

Holden Tower

A juvenile Kingfisher on the fence across the pond to East of hide, Little Grebe and Wigeon also present.

South Lake

The wader scrape is excellent, 3 Common and 4 Green Sandpipers, 7 Ruff (4 males), 31 Redshank, 170 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Oystercatcher, 104 Lapwing and 10 Teal among the commoner wildfowl.

Zeiss Hide

12 Avocet (broods of 2 and 3), 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Lapwing, 90 Teal, 1 Green Sandpiper.

Greylag Geese are flocking up together out in the fields
