More new arrivals

A breezy day with cloud and largely dry other than drizzle. The birding is still very good. Some of the scarcer visitors were fleeting such as the petrel, some of the waders were seen only over the high tide but others showed well all day (see Black Tern below).

Rushy Pen Hide

5 Snipe, a juvenile Ruff, 7 Lapwing, Redshank, 3 Green Sandpiper, 24 Teal and 2 Shoveler this morning, no sign of the juvenile Curlew Sandpiper that was present over the last two days by 10am.

Martin Smith Hide

The Kingfisher continues to show on the perches and posts we put out around the pool.

Robbie Garnett Hide

3 Green Sandpiper, 55 Teal and 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 7 of which are very smart juveniles. Ringed Plover and Dunlin seen here yesterday.

Middle Point

Marsh Harrier, juvenile Turnstone, 20 Ringed Plover and 15 Dunlin on the nearby sands pre-tide, 2 Raven attacking a Peregrine which was chasing prey. A STORM PETREL was seen flying over the estuary at high tide.

South Lake

On the wader scrape- 29 Teal, 28 Shoveler, 4 Ruff (3 adult males and a very small adult female)20 Redshank, 129 Black-tailed Godwit, 190 Lapwing, 1 Green Sandpiper. Over the deep lake and causeways- 40 Sand Martin, Great Crested Grebe pair and youngster, 235 Black-headed Gull. Yesterday 2 Avocet, 3 Curlew Sandpiper and 2 Ringed Plover joined the waders and an adult Mediterranean Gull was present.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

3 Lapwing, 140 Teal and 60 Shoveler. Over high tide- 2 Little Stint (adult and juvenile), Curlew Sandpiper (adult and juvenile) and 20 Dunlin.
