Pecs Again

Positively tropical by the afternoon after another morning of misty rain. It certainly gives an air of 'rarity potential' at this time of year with low cloud hanging over the reserve.

Yesterday's two Pectoral Sandpiper were present in the afternoon. They can be fairly elusive and do get hassled by the many (150+) Common Snipe present. One was seen earlier on Sunley's Marsh before both birds were relocated out on Woodend Marsh.

Other waders included 300+ Lapwing, 3 Dunlin, Little Stint, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Golden Plover (west) and 19 Ruff.

Around 5000 Pink-footed Geese, 1500+ Teal, 115 Wigeon, 53 Gadwall, 20+ Shoveler, 2 Pintail, 380 Greylag, 236 Canada.

Raptors included 6 Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Southerly movements of 82 Skylark in the morning.
