Bird News

Two sightings of Brambling on the reserve today, one from the Janet Kear hide and another (although possibly the same bird) near the Kingfisher hide.

At least 2 Little Egrets were present today, and were visible from most of the hides at some stage during the day.

The regular Tawny Owls were again in the ivy covered trees near the Kingfisher hide, and Kingfishers were seen from both the Ron Barker and Kingfisher hides.

The Ron Barker hide also produced sightings of Water Rail, a single Golden Plover, several Common Snipe, and a very showy Peregrine.

At least 1 Sparrowhawk, 3+ Common Buzzard, 40+ Ruff and a few Black-tailed Godwits were on and around the Mere, as were the usual wildfowl which today included Tufted Duck, Goldeneye and Pochard along with the regular good numbers of Teal, Wigeon, Pintail, Shelduck and Shoveller.
