Cattle Egret

Warming up today feeling very summer like. A Cattle Egret flew onto the reserve around 1pm. Martin Mere had Lancashire's first record in 1999 but in the last two years they have been annual.

Once mega rare Cattle Egrets are making regular appearances on the reserve.

Little Gull, the second calender bird, still present on the reserve late afternoon. Cuckoo showing well this morning from the Kingfisher Hide.

At least 8 fledged Avocet with more on the way, a good year. Ten Pochard chicks in the sluice opposite the Ron Barker Hide. At least one Redshank chick fledged out on Woodend Marsh.

Other waders counts included 70+ Lapwing and 17 Black-tailed Godwit.

If you see anything on the reserve or would like to know the best spots call in at the in focus shop, next to the Discovery Hide.

Check previous days for a fuller picture of whats about.
