Today’s sightings

Rushy Hide

Three Mediterranean Gulls were present this morning, a single second-summer plumaged bird and two in first-summer plumage.  A Green Sandpiper was on the lower pond along with 6 Avocet.  Another pair of Avocet are still incubating on the upper pond.  Ten Black-tailed Godwits were close to the InFocus shop and a single drake Wigeon was on the back of the upper pond.
.

South Lake Hides

The Crane family have moved off into the cover of the marsh to the right of the Hogarth Hide so can be harder to see, but with patience they do venture out and give great views.  A flock of 83 Black-tailed Godwit were on the pool along with 13 Avocet, the well-grown Oystercatcher chick and at least 28 Gadwall.

On the wader scrape were another 64 Avocet including at least 3 nests still being incubated and 17 chicks of varying sizes.  A new family of Pied Wagtail were on the exposed mud, a pair with four juveniles.
.

Robbie Garnett Hide

Three Green Sandpiper were present this morning, being chased around by an adult Avocet.  A Cuckoo was singing from the Decoy behind the hide – listen out for him along the Holden Walkway or when you pass through the grounds.
.

Zeiss Hide

A flock of 14 Avocet were feeding on the scrape, with an additional pair looking as though they may nest on the island.  A pair of Mute Swan have six cygnets on the scrape too with other waterfowl including at least 40 Gadwall and nine Shoveler.  Another Cuckoo was heard singing towards the Kingfisher Hide.
