Ruff arrivals

South Lake

At least ten adult Ruff feeding on the scrape, six appeared to be female, the males are looking quite scruffy and varied as they are moulting. 45+ Redshank included a number of juveniles, these can be quite confusing for the beginner as they are very yellow, short billed and spotty, reminiscent of Wood Sandpiper. A few Lapwing were among 17o Black-tailed Godwit, the colour-ringed bird is still with them. Two adult Little-ringed Plover, a Dunlin, the Crane family and two Green Sandpiper were also on the scrape. Over 50 Gadwall and 8 Teal were present, 12 Cormorant of all ages were roosting.

 

Rushy Pen

Four juvenile Little-ringed Plovers, 8 Green Sandpiper, 1 Redshank, 2 Lapwing and 14 Black-tailed Godwit were on the lower pond with 15+ Pied Wagtail.

Tack Piece

Two Lapwing and 7 Green Sandpiper. 7+ Pied Wagtail.

Knott Hide

Two Green Sandpiper and plenty of Reed Warblers.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

Common Sandpiper, 150 Dunlin, 33 Avocet (13 juveniles) and 8 Teal. 7 Swift fed overhead with lots of Reed Warblers below the hide.
