Osprey South

It looked 'rare' this morning with humid overcast condition after a night of rain showers. The juvenile Black-necked Grebe was still present on the Mere until late afternoon at least.

A good day for birds of prey with an Osprey over the reserve around 2pm. A Hobby put on a good show from the United Utilities Hide early afternoon. Other raptoras included 3 Buzzard, 3 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

A little quieter on the wader front with the departure of Black-tailed Godwit, a count last thursday produced just short of 1600 birds, a new record. Today the wader list had 600+ Lapwing, 6 Dunlin, 30+ Snipe, 20+ Ruff, Oystercatcher, Greenshank and Green Sandpiper.

A Cetti's Warbler called from the Reed Bed Walk this morning.

A count of 198 feral Canada Geese on the Mere yesterday.

A few Swift passing through today.

Plenty of butterfly and dragonfly action along the inner Reed Bed Walk.
