Pink-footed Arrivals

Newly arrived Pink-footed Geese coming in from high.

Conditions following Storm Aileen looked good for bringing in Pink-footed Geese and in they came. At the time of writing around 1800 birds had come in. The next couple of days looks good for some bigger movements.

Although Storm Aieleen didn't produce any inland seabirds for us, the last couple of days have brought plenty of rain with water levels around the site increasing.

Teal numbers have risen to over 600. Small numbers of Wigeon and Pintail arriving.

Waders include 600+ Lapwing, 30+ Ruff, 80+ Snipe, 10+ Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Green Sandpiper.

Good for raptors with 3+ Marsh Harrier, 3+ Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Hobby, the later the first for over a week.

A Whinchat near the long hedge is the first of the autumn. A few more Skylark around, Swallows and House Martins still present. Swift yesterday.

The usual Tree Sparrows around the Kingfisher Hide feeders. Kingfisher from the UU Hide and Ron Barker. Flocks of 100+ Goldfinch out on the reserve field also small groups of Linnet.
