Threatened waterbirds

WWT promotes the conservation of threatened waterbirds particularly waterfowl and flamingos and their habitats worldwide in collaboration with other national and international conservation organisations.

Blue DuckOur work includes monitoring the status of threatened waterfowl, disseminating information on threatened waterfowl and encouraging their conservation (via the Threatened Waterfowl Specialist Group). We also aid the professional development of threatened waterfowl conservationists by maintaining a training and funding programme for TWSG members in developing countries; coordination of national and international captive breeding programmes; and a PhD on extinction risk in wetland birds.

We produce and implement action plans for eight key species: Blue Duck, Brazilian Merganser, Common Scoter (via the UK Common Scoter Biodiversity Action Plan), flamingos, Red-breasted Goose, White-headed Duck, Laysan Teal and Scaly-sided Merganser.
