Meet WWT team pochard!

A team of highly skilled and experienced WWT staff members are travelling to Madagascar to save the world’s rarest duck.

The members of the team are:

Nigel Jarrett (Nige), WWT's Aviculture ManagerMark Roberts (aka Sparky) Aviculture Manager at Slimbridge

Martin Brown, Animal Health OfficerOwen Joiner, Aviculture Manager at Washington

Peter Cranswick, Head of Species Planning

Nige and Sparky have been in Madagascar since early October, and Martin and Owen travelled out about 3 weeks after them. The team will, at times, be split between the lake, the hotel or travelling – so communication with can be a little tricky (when at the lake, they have to walk to the top of the nearest hill a mile away just to send a text). Meanwhile, Peter is helping to co-ordinate things from the UK. We’ll keep you up to date with progress and significant events as soon as we receive it …

Durrell and the Peregrine Fund also have staff on the ground in Madagascar and Durrell have a blog you can follow: http://blog.durrell.org
