It never rains...

It’s all happening!

Martin: “We finished installing the three outdoor tanks today – and just in time: after several days of extreme heat and humidity, we’ve had a torrential downpour today, with water rushing past our chalet. We’re hastily constructing storm drains to protect the aviary, and erecting shelter for the birds. We’ve had a report that the road near Bealanana is a torrent. Travel to or from the lake is now almost certainly impossible.

“We checked the eggs early in the day. All the young are alive and some are moving into the air space, ready to hatch.”

Later that evening, four eggs had chipped – hatching is imminent.

Below is a picture by Nigel of Lily-Arison – Director of the Peregrine Fund in Madagascar, and the person who rediscovered the pochard – watching over the first brood of ducklings.
