The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust has a range of professionally written learning programmes designed to cover areas of the National Curriculum and other syllabuses that can be undertaken at Welney. All age groups can be catered for from nursery to university students. The magical Pond Room transports your class to an underwater world from which they can explore Welney.

When is the best time to bring my class to Welney?
Any time of year is a good time to bring your group to Welney. In the winter you can study migration against the backdrop of 9,000 wild Whooper and Bewick’s swans. In summer the ponds and ditches are alive with creatures, on which we base activities about habitats, adaptation and food chains.

Can I bring my class to see a swan feed?
All classes visiting from January to March will see a 12noon swan feed as part of their visit. For something extra special you can book a schools evening on Mondays and Tuesdays from November to February. The reserve is closed to the general public and your class can experience first-hand up to 2,000 Whooper swans coming in to feed before they roost for the night.

How much does it cost?
An education visit to Welney costs no more than a normal visit. You just pay the child group admission rate and the services of the Learning Manager are provided for free! Teachers and leaders are free in a ratio of 1:5 for Key Stage 1 and 1:10 for Key Stage 2 and above.

Child group admission - £2.50

Student (16+) group admission - £3.40.
