WWT Report and Financial Statements 2012/13
The past three years have been a challenging time for
organisations like WWT. Two of the wettest summers
on record and a deep economic recession have tested
the Trust.
Six years ago the trustees took the decision to build the
Trust’s financial reserves to deal with situations like this.
Careful management of finances and programmes by
all involved have enabled the organisation to continue to
grow and achieve success in a difficult year. The Council
acknowledges the tremendous work of the Trust’s staff
and volunteers and the contributions of all our supporters
and donors in achieving this.
We have once again had a very active and successful
year, from helping to save species on the brink of
extinction to providing unforgettable experiences at our
nine wetland centres and extending our influence and
reputation in wetland habitat design and creation.
WWT has extended its influence and reputation for
the delivery of a wide range of wetland conservation
programmes, saving wetlands for wildlife and people, and
key achievements are described in this report. Many more
challenges lie ahead but the organisation’s considerable
skills, knowledge and expertise will enable it to continue
to be a major leader in wetland conservation both in the
UK and across the world.
I am sure Sir Peter Scott would be proud of the continued
success of the wonderful national treasure that is WWT.
Sir George Russell
