Wise up to wetlands – programmes for schools
At the National Wetland Centre Wales we’ve a wide range of curriculum-linked programmes for schools which enable pupils to explore the environment by looking at wetlands. These are specially tailored for all ages from early years right through all the key stages and are designed to be:
- hands on
- thought provoking and engaging
- memorable and fun
- outdoors
- safe
Our programmes make the best of our wonderful site on the Loughor estuary and of our huge and spectacular collection of wetland birds from across the world. It’s just the spot to get that taste of the real world too often missing from our learning and from the daily experiences of the children – a place to come and get immersed in:
- colour
- sound
- smells
- winds and weather
- the flux of the seasons
The centre and our programmes focus on:
- living things in their environment
- pond habitats and adaptation
- biodiversity and ecosystems
- food chains
- conservation
- environmental change
- sustainable development
- global citizenship
- the water cycle
And you can do it throughout the year! There’s something fascinating whatever the season.
