Volunteering

London Wetland Centre volunteersThe Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is a charity and relies on the generous support of volunteers at all its wetland centres to help with conservation work and other daily tasks.

The London Wetland Centre currently has openings for:

  • Retail and membership recruiters (especially weekends)
  • Education volunteers (weekends and summer holidays)
  • Volunteers needed to form a regular horticultural team to work on Fridays
  • There are also opportunities for work groups to undertake outside projects such as planting, digging, reed clearance, pollarding, weeding and painting during weekdays.

We are also interested to hear from people with specialist skills that may be of use to WWT.

Are you interested in engaging people with wildlife? Would you like to enthuse and inspire visitors at the London Wetland Centre? We are looking for volunteers to help implement face to face learning experiences and bring wildlife to the public through our handling collections. You will need to be confident interacting with our visitors and have an ability to enthuse and inspire. You will have good communication skills and a passion for wildlife. You will need to be available between Saturday 24 July to Tuesday 31 August. For more details please contact Carolyn Robertson carolyn.robertson@wwt.org.uk

If you can offer your time to help with general office duties (including phone cover) on Saturday mornings or on Thursdays, or with greeting visitors on Sundays, please call Chris Elliott on 020 8409 4400.

Corporate Volunteering

Escape the office for a day and do your bit for wetland conservation with our corporate volunteering opportunities at WWT London Wetland Centre. We can cater for corporate volunteering days, where work groups can assist wardens with duties such as planting, digging, weeding and pollarding. Costs vary depending on type of volunteer work completed. Please call our Volunteer Coordinator on 020 8409 4400 for further details. Pictured: NBC Universal Corporate Volunteer Day

Work experience

WWT London Wetland Centre takes five work experience students a year for one working week at a time. Students spend each day working with a different department. Work experience must be part of the schools programme and placements are subject to interview. Demand for placements is very high and there are no remaining openings in 2010 but there are still openings in 2011.

With limited staffing resources we very much regret that the London Wetland Centre cannot accept students on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
