At WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre we are in the middle of a huge project to update our water supply so the diggers are back on site.
As part of the work we are transforming the area at the back of the visitor centre called the ‘Big Pen’ to create a larger water area which will be called Swan Lake. This superior pool will have shallows and roosting spots for the swans and a better feeding area.
There will also be a new path system installed down central spine of the site alongside the new water supply channel.
This will be planted to attract native wildlife such as the water vole.
We expect the works to take up until Easter and then it will still take time for the new greenery to grow.
While this work is underway you are likely to face some disruption on your visit. We have worked hard to ensure the grounds are as accessible as possible and hope you will enjoy learning more about the changes on your visit.
