What is there for groups?

Welney Wetland Centre provides the perfect destination for a group visit, from keen wildlife enthusiasts to those wanting a relaxing and tranquil day out accompanied by excellent afternoon tea.

WWT Welney offers beautiful walks around the reserve, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the untamed beauty of the wetland reserve and witness the ever changing wetland wildlife. The Main Observatory looks out across the main lagoon and has central heating, information about the history of the Washes and wildlife identification charts, meaning there is something for everyone to enjoy. Throughout the reserve there are many bird hides and boardwalks, offering plenty of opportunities to observe the wildlife throughout the seasons.

Along with the wetland nature reserve, there is the award winning Visitor centre, renowned for its eco-friendly features. The visitor centre houses the Wigeon Café, with its stunning panoramic views across theFens, and the Gift shop which offers a vast selection of local books, DVD’s, produce and gifts. The Fenland Worlds discovery area tells the story of the Fens, with first hand accounts and artefacts from a past way of life in the Fens. The unique and awe inspiring Pond Room gives a taste of life under water, and is the perfect setting for children’s activities.

The visitor centre and much of the reserve is fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible. The centre offers an electric wheelchair and two push wheelchairs for visitors to use free of charge during their visit. Prior booking will be required – please contact the centre to make a booking.

What we can offer

The group leader is offered a free familiarisation visit in advance of the group's visit to ensure the visit runs as smoothly as possible.

On the day of your visit you will be greeted by your host for the day who will give the group a short introduction to Welney and explain the format of the visit. This can be done in reception or on the coach. Your host is contactable throughout the day should you have any problems.

Additional activities you can book for your group include warden talks, guided walks, a guide in the hide or a winter wild swan feed. Some of these include an additional charge. More information and prices can be found in the Group Visit Information.

Eating and drinking

Your group has the option to dine at WWT Welney in the Wigeon Cafe. If you require drinks, cakes or snacks, these are available for your group to purchase during their visit.   If your group requires a light meal, afternoon tea or high tea, advance booking is required. More information and prices can be found in the Group Visit Information.

At the agreed time your group will find tables reserved for them in the licensed Wigeon Café, giving them the opportunity to take in the stunning views across the Fens, while enjoying their meal.

Groups arriving in a coach (30 seats or more) will receive a £5 refreshment voucher for their coach driver to spend in the Wigeon café.
