Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT)

Volunteers have given invaluable support to the Arundel Wetland Centre since it opened in 1976.

They are an essential part of our daily life, helping us to provide activities, customer care and habitat management 364 days a year. Volunteers may commit to work alongside staff on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, while others help at holiday events throughout the year.

Projects vary from bird counts to hide repairs, reed cutting to tree planting, to family craft and event activities. The list is endless...

Volunteer Opportunities

Education Team

Weekend Guide in a Hide

Do you enjoy spending time outdoors? Are you passionate about birds and wildlife? Would you like to share your knowledge?
Arundel Wetland Centre is looking to build a team of people to act as weekend Guides in Hides.

You will have a good knowledge of birds and be able to share your expertise with our visitors. This voluntary position will involve an induction. Following the induction you will choose your favourite hide and use this as a base to talk to visitors.

Volunteering with WWT not only gives you the chance to make new, like-minded friends and gain new skills, it also offers the chance for you to do something really worthwhile and rewarding. This is your chance to be part of an internationally recognised environmental charity working with wetlands, wildlife and people.

Marketing Team

We are looking for a volunteer with graphic design experience who is able to work one day a week on signage, education and marketing materials. The marketing team also needs volunteers from May-September 2012 to staff information booths at events and fairs.

If you would like to volunteer please email patricia.warren@wwt.org.uk.

Grounds Team

Long-term volunteering

Grounds volunteers start work with the rest of the grounds team at 8 am and stay until 4 pm. Volunteers must commit to working one day a week on a continuous basis, this is then reviewed after 3 months. This volunteer work is very physical and a good level of fitness is essential.

Early morning tasks prepare the grounds for visitors: trash collection and path cleaning. Other tasks will vary seasonally and include cutting and clearing grassland or reed bed, pollarding willow, fencing, painting and other general maintenance.

Monthly Volunteer group

We also have a monthly volunteer group who meet the third Wednesday and/or Sunday of the month. This group starts at 10 am and finishes at 4 pm. Again a good level of fitness is required.

If eaither of these volunteer opportunities appeal to you  email sam.halpin@wwt.org.uk.
Please allow a week response time as Sam is only inside, in the office, one day a week.
