Open throughout the school summer holidays (Wednesday 24 July – Monday 2 September), our canoe safari gives you the chance to explore otherwise inaccessible watery expanses and look out for wildlife on the water.
This wonderful wetland adventure is suitable for children aged five and over (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult) and it’s included in the price of admission to the centre.
Our traditional Canadian canoes are suitable for two persons (sorry but they can’t be used by solo canoeists).
No previous experience is required so the canoe safari is suitable for complete novices or more experienced canoeists. Full instruction will be given.
A small child (aged between 5 and 10 years of age) can also be accommodated, sitting on a canvas hammock seat suspended in the middle of the canoe.
The canoe safari is considered a safe water environment; it is an enclosed, inland waterway and there are no tides or currents to contend with. The maximum water depth is no more than three feet. Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn at all times. Full safety cover provided. Facilities at the canoe safari include an eco-friendly toilet.
Adverse weather
If the weather is windy the canoe safari may be closed for safety reasons. Even though it may not appear windy up at the centre, the location of the canoe safari means it is exposed to the wind, especially south westerly.
Opening times
Canoes are open between 12.00 noon until 4.00pm (last canoe can go out at 4.00pm and must be returned by 4.30pm).
