School facilitators
Are you looking for experience in the outdoor education sector?
The WWT London Wetland Centre’s Learning Department is a leading provider of outdoor learning experiences and holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. We are currently recruiting volunteers to help facilitate the school learning programme during the busy Summer Term.
Your role will be to assist the Learning team with administrative and preparatory tasks in advance of school visits, greeting and briefing school groups upon arrival, engaging learners during the self-guided portion of their visit, and helping to tidy up resources after schools have departed.
We are looking for a commitment of 9.00-15.30, one day per week (Tue-Fri) for the duration of Summer Term: 15 Apr – 24 Jul (excluding half-term from 27-31 May).
If you are interested, please contact the Learning Manager Shayna Barby at shayna.barby@wwt.org.uk , outlining your relevant experience and preferred day(s).

Guide in the Hide, Headley Discovery Hide
Are you passionate about wildlife and conservation?
Do you enjoy talking to the public and sharing your knowledge?
Would you like to help our visitors get to know more about watching birds?
We’re looking for volunteers to act as Guides in the Hide in our new Headley Discovery Hide, which has been designed with beginner birdwatchers in mind. You’ll be covering two hour long slots for one day a week.
Our wonderful new hide overlooks the Main Lake where in summer you’ll be able to show visitors a variety of birds, from common terns nesting on our tern rafts to sand martins skimming through the air over the water. The hide’s equipped with fixed telescopes and binoculars, bird guides and handy information on getting started as a birdwatcher. Whether you’re looking for a job in conservation or want to support our work in your spare time this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who loves sharing their enthusiasm for nature.
Our aim is for the Hide to be welcoming to all visitors, including families and school groups.
Find out more by downloading the Guide in the Hide - Headley Hide task description (pdf, 240kb).
If you are interested, please contact the Learning Manager Shayna Barby at shayna.barby@wwt.org.uk , outlining your relevant experience and preferred day(s).
Office volunteers
Do you enjoy helping people? As an Office Volunteer you’ll be a first point of contact with our visitors, making a real difference to their experience.
Duties include answering the phone and dealing with enquiries, along with providing general office support to our staff. You’ll be part of a friendly, dedicated team based in the WWT London Wetland Centre office. No need to be a wildlife expert - and you’ll be fully trained by our staff and volunteers.

Events volunteers
Want to help us provide fantastic days out for our visitors? Do you like meeting the public? We run special events throughout the year, from wildlife talks in the Theatre to our big Winter Wonderland Weekend with Father Christmas. Our team of events volunteers help to make sure these events run smoothly and that our visitors have a great experience.
You’ll also represent the Centre on stalls at fairs and exhibitions.

Work experience
WWT London Wetland Centre takes five work experience students a year for one working week at a time. Students spend each day working with a different department.
Work experience must be part of the schools programme and placements are subject to interview.
Demand for placements is very high and there are no remaining openings in 2013.
With limited staffing resources we very much regret that the London Wetland Centre cannot accept students on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
