WLI update, February 2010

Dear all,

Chris Rostron, Head of WLIThe World Wetland Network has started to take off, with confirmation that the Biodiversity Foundation will fund the International Wetland Awards, otherwise known as the Wetland Globes. We have also started work on a new Virtual Wetland Centre visits page, which looks like it will be a great way of finding out what each centre does. 2010 will be a busy year, starting with the World Wetlands Day this month, and we look forward to the challenge.  If you are doing any events for World Wetlands Day, please let me know and I will upload them here.
Best regards,    Boardwalk, HKWPChris

Virtual Wetland Centre Visits

This new web page will show each centre through a panoramic view, site map and interviews and photos of the site. We have a list of centres interested, but if you would like to take part, please get in touch.

Wonga wetlandsNew Members

Members have joined from Las Boadas, Pitilla and Viana wetlands, and Las Salinas, all in Spain, and Wonga Wetlands from Australia.

WWN International Wetland Awards

The Wetland Globes, as we are calling them, will be voted on by NGOs across the world, and are being launched on World Wetlands Day. The website is being tailor-made for the prize, and will allow an interactive map to show wetlands of international importance across the world. The Monkey at Kuala Selangorwebsite will be launched at the beginning of March.

WLI Asia Conference

A core group has been meeting regularly to plan and co-ordinate the next WLI Asia meeting. We are aiming for October the 20th to the 24th at Kuala Selangor Nature Park in Malaysia, and hope to host around 80 participants over the 4 days. Please keep an eye on the WLI Asia Website for details.
